As a public service announcement, hidebound.com proudly presents samples of the latest form of rippoff get-rich-quick email shams we've been getting.

Why I'm blogging this nonsense: I'm (late as usual) beginning to learn about RSS feeds, and this BlogSphere thingie seems to support RSS feeds, and there ain't no better way to learn than to do, so here we go . . .
As a preface to this post: Yes, I'm an old fart. As a teenager, two of the first 8-track (yes, 8-tracks!) tapes I bought with my precious lawn mowing money was "One of These Nights" and "Hotel California" (along with something from Gordon Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkel and Boston's first record . . . tape . . . whatever. I rather liked the Eagles back in the day, but I don't really listen to their music anymore. However, a recent event caused me to track down an Eagles forum and rant a little bit.

MySQL is dead, long live MySQL.
Thank goodness there are other options available in the SQL world of servers and databases, for if PostgreSQL were not available, radio hidebound would have been totally offline for the last few days, but as I started to rebuild www.radiohidebound.com, I started to realize that maybe PostgreSQL wasn't really the longterm answer to fixing the problems arising from Sunday's power outage.

Because I'm obviously a fucking idiot and too fucking stoopid to get MySQL working (not that I'm bitter about this or anything), we've switched the backend of radio hidebound to PostgreSQL. Now before you start thinking I must be pretty smart to even know about PostgreSQL, it is the default database choice for new installations of SAM. So there.
How did we get here? Well, somebody on the Spacial Audio forum (the guys who develop SAM) suggested I use MySQL 4.0.x instead of MySQL 4.1.x. Well, I couldn't get MySQL 4.0.whateverthefuckitwas installed, so I went with PostgreSQL. I could use some more expletives for humorous effect, but really, I think I've fucking kicked that cocksucker to death.
By the way, when does Deadwood start again?

Arghhhhh!
Okay, so yesterday the power cut out in my neighborhood. Although we've got a battery backup device, I brilliantly neglected to hook up the station's computer monitor to it, and before I was able to do so, the battery went out. BOOM.

too tired to write much right now . . . radio hidebound is broadcasting again, but in a somewhat limited way. All the songs are safe, but the playlist logic is toast as are the webpage updates, the request feature, etc. etc. etc.
More about this nightmare tomorrow.

Four really good shows in the last month (or so) to write a little about.
So I get these little email notices from the various music venues in D.C., and one of them listed Robyn Hitchcock in the subject line.
